What is Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome?
About Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS)
Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome is a medical condition that is caused by a mutation on the X chromosone which causes a mutation on the AR receptor. This mutation affects the body's ability to understand androgenes such as testosterone. In complete androgen insensitivity sydrome this creates a body that is phenyotypically female, with internal testes and no female reproductive organs. In partial androgen insensitivity sydrome this creates a body that is phenyotypically female, phenotypically male, or phenotypically somewhere inbetween, with internal testes and no female reproductive organs. In mild androgen insensitivity sydrome this creates a body that is phenyotypically male, with descended testes.
Causes
Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome is most often passed down by people inheriting a mutated X chromosone from their mother.
